Overview

Some of the most compelling businesses do not fit neatly within a traditional investment category.

HERA's Alternative Businesses strategy allows us to invest selectively in founder, family, and operator-led companies with durable customer demand, distinctive brands or capabilities, strong underlying economics, and meaningful opportunities for continued growth.

We are particularly interested in businesses where the founder's vision remains an important competitive advantage. Our role is not to institutionalize away what made a company special. It is to build the capabilities around that distinction that allow the business to grow without losing it.

Depending on the company, that may include strengthening financial and operating infrastructure, expanding distribution, developing leadership teams, implementing technology and data capabilities, improving sourcing or supply chains, extending the brand, entering new markets, or pursuing complementary acquisitions.

HERA brings patient capital and an operator's perspective to these partnerships. We can support founder transitions, generational ownership, growth capital, strategic acquisitions, or the development of a business into a broader platform.

We look for companies with something real at their center: craftsmanship, intellectual property, trusted relationships, brand equity, specialized expertise, or an enduring way of serving customers.

Our ambition is to help exceptional businesses become enduring institutions.
